Eventing is a three day competition consisting of dressage, cross country and stadium jumping. The competition relies on your dressage score and adds points to it throughout the weekend if any mistakes are made during cross country or jumping. The goal is to end on your dressage score.

Jumpers is a competition where the goal is a fast, clean round. If the ride is within the time without penalties, a new course with less fences is jumped within a set amount of time, known as the "jump off"

Dressage is a competition in which the horse and rider are scored. A pattern is ridden and the horse must do the assigned movement at the assigned letter in the ring. Each movement is scored out of 10, then totaled at the end for a percentage. The highest score wins. The horse is scored on balance, impulsion, straightness and submission.

Hunters is a competition where the horse is scored based on the relaxation, correct striding and distance to the fences as well as their form over the fences.
